Florida Issue Alert

American workers are the backbone of our economy, and John McCain recognizes that they are the hardest working, most innovative and best-skilled workers in the world. John McCain is the only candidate with a comprehensive economic plan that will create millions of good paying American jobs and prevent more jobs from moving overseas.

His Proposals Include:
  • Building 45 nuclear power plants by 2030. These plants will generate 700,000 new jobs for American worke rs and provide clean, cheap energy.
  • Investing in our community colleges and technical training programs to give displaced workers the skills they need to find their way back to productive and prosperous lives.
  • Reforming and modernizing the unemployment system of the 1950's to make it work for the 21st Century worker.
  • John McCain will provide special, targeted assistance for older workers. We can help these individuals honor their tradition of work and allow them to keep up with the times. For people over 55 who have lost their jobs, John McCain will give them the opportunity to particpate in job retraining programs or will offer them a few years of supplemental income to help boost their earnings if they have to take a lower paying job.
  • Cutting the corporate tax rate from 35% to 25%, making America a more attractive place to do business.
  • Creating a National Commission on Workplace Flexibility and Choice. This Commission would bring together a bi-partisan set of leaders representing workers, small and large employers, labor and academics. The Commission would make recommendations to the president on how modernizing our nation's labor laws and training programs can help workers better balance the demands of their job with family life and to enable workers to more easily transition between jobs.
  • Reforming the insurance system, creating portable insurance that workers can take with them from one job to the next.
  • Investing in educational programs to ensure that our next generation of workers are competitive on a global scale.
