L.A. Dismisses Illegal Immigration

A judge in Los Angeles has upheld the city's Special Order 40, which essentially is a "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy for illegal aliens. In other words ... Los Angeles is trying its best to maintain its status as a sanctuary city for illegal criminals in this country. This policy is apparently in place in order to "avoid discouraging illegal immigrants from reporting crimes and assisting police." Like hell.

A taxpayer lawsuit was filed that tried to change the long-standing law, which prohibits L.A. police officers from asking persons they arrest about their immigration status. The lawsuit asked for a permanent injunction to prevent taxpayer money from enforcing this policy. But this week, a judge ruled on the side of the city and the ACLU because "there were no triable issues raised in the suit." Do you hear that? Our illegal immigration issue in this country is "not a triable issue." Now I realize it's more complicated than that, but tell that to the taxpayers who are footing the bills for illegals to have medical care and use government services in Los Angeles. This is just another small part of big problem. This is the government enabling illegal immigration. It is Mexifornia though ... you people out there get what you pay for. And vote for.

Not a triable issue? Laws, Federal laws, are being violated and thrown aside like yesterday's garbage. Look, if the state and Federal governments change the immigration laws, that's one thing and I'll shut up. But I can not sit still and watch a law...any law...being ignored and not say anything about it. My main complaint is with the politicians even more than with the illegal aliens themselves. Politicians are afraid to 1) go against a current voter base and a potentially broader voter base, 2) stand up to those of us who want the laws enforced, or 3) change the law.

If the politicians come out against illegal aliens, they risk losing the Hispanic vote. Current Hispanics and those to whom they want to grant amnesty. That's right. Some politicians want to grant amnesty to criminals. Again. It didn't work before, it won't work this time. They always says, this is a one-time thing. Sure, and I have a bridge for sale. That's what is said every time amnesty is raised.

If the politicians side with the illegal aliens, they risk losing the anti-amnesty/illegal alien vote. If they introduce a law to do one or the other, they risk offending one segment or another. I actually applaud those politicians who support amnesty. At least they have chosen a side and I know what they stand for.

It's a no-win situation for politicians. They're going to offend someone no matter which side they take, so most of them try to straddle the fence and say what each group wants to hear. These are the politicians we as citizens and voters have to watch. They will say whatever it takes to get the votes of the group they are currently speaking to, especially if they can say it without committing themselves. Political double talk.

Right now the laws say that anyone entering this country must do so through approved, legal entry points. But there are thousands who are crossing the borders, mostly through the Southwestern states of Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona, and even California. Until the laws change these people are criminals. I know that most of them have the best of intentions: they want to make a better life for their families. I understand and even applaud that. Who doesn't want their kids to have a better life and better and more opportunities than they did? I am proud beyond saying that they think that my country is the place to do that. I might not always be proud of what the politicians and even some citizens of America do or say, but I have always been proud of my country and what it offers.

However, good intentions, even the very best of intentions does not mitigate that a crime has occurred. Just as I understand that a parent might steal a loaf of bread for their starving kids, I also know that the parent has committed a crime. Committed for the best of intentions, but still a crime. Anyone crossing the border without the documents that our government requires for legal entry, and crossing anyplace other than an official point of entry, is a criminal.

When the politicians have the guts to stand up to someone and either enforce the laws or change the laws, I'll have more faith in our "leaders". Until then, I have to speak out. To our employees in Congress, our Senators and Representatives, I say to you: Quit pandering for votes. Quit trying to please everyone. Grow a set and do something about this problem.
