H.R. 6166, the Military Commissions Act of 2006

The battles in the war on terrorism have left us with the need to evaluate how we should treat terrorists in our military prisons. Undoubtedly a captured terrorist must be aggressively questioned so that information regarding future terrorist plots may be uncovered in order to save lives. This bill provides our military with appropriate guidelines to detain, question and prosecute terrorists who are captured on the battlefield.

The bill passed 253 to 168. Only 34 Democrats voted for the passage of this bill.
